Different circuits are possible, the shortest of 3 or 4 days are devoted to Lhasa with a round trip by plane and an approach to the Tibetan capital. For the more adventurous, a superb week-long road trip from Kathmandu to Lhasa with two days in the capital and a return by plane.

Regulations change very quickly in Tibet without notice. It is not uncommon to see changes several times a year regarding the authorized visa duration or the "minimum" group size. Contact us for the latest news. It should be noted that the roads (or tracks) are in poor condition and that the high altitude plays its role. Infrastructure is also very limited outside of Lhasa and major cities. We must consider the journey to Tibet as an adventure in every way. This requires correct physical condition even if there is little walking, unfailing morale and great flexibility.

The Road to Lhasa



Duration 7 nights/8 days

Details:

Trips and treks in Tibet are difficult to organize due to Chinese regulations. These change often and it is not uncommon for the border to be so abruptly closed. Current regulations impose a minimum of 4 participants of the same nationality to ensure departure.

DAY 01: Kathmandu (1300m) – Zhangmu (2500m): 123 km/Nyalam (3700m): + 34 km. Journey to the border (Kodari). Possibility of walking for about an hour to the Zhangmu immigration post. Night at the hotel.

DAY 02: Zhangmu – Xegar (4350m): 240 km. Crossing high plateaus, extraordinary landscapes. Views of Everest.

DAY 03: Xegar – Xigatse (3900m): 244 km: crossing the highest Tibetan pass accessible by road (Gyatchu La 5220m). It is also very close by that there is the western junction which leads to Mount Kailash.

DAY 04: Xigatse – Gyantse (3950m): 90 km: Visit to the monastery of Panchen Lama TASHILHUMPU. Journey to Gyantse and visit the famous KUMBUM stupa and PHALKOR monastery.

DAY 05: Gyantse – Lhasa (3650m): 261 km: This route offers you magnificent landscapes, crossing KAROLA (5010m) and KAMBALA (4794m), Lake YAMADROK and the famous BRAHMA PUTRA river.

DAY 06 and 07: LHASA: Two-day tour of the Tibetan capital including: JOKHANG Temple, BARKHOR Market, Majestic POTALA PALACE, DREPUNG Monasteries and SERA

DAY 08: LHASA-KATHMANDU: early morning journey to Congar airport (one hour drive) then return flight to Kathmandu, or a few days individually depending on your program.

The excursion to Everest Base Camp offers extraordinary views of Cho Oyu (8153m), Makalu (8478m), Ghyachung Kang (7967m) and of course the highest peak in the world.

DAY 10: Road to the border (Zanghmu – Kodari). Transfer to Kathmandu. End of circuit.

Details:

KAILASH, a sacred mountain for Buddhists, Hindus and even Jains, is surely one of the most captivating places in Tibet. Here more than elsewhere, the spiritual reaches the heights. Every month (from May to September), we offer a departure from Kathmandu for this journey/pilgrimage which will introduce you to Tibet from the inside. Grandiose and preserved landscapes that only Tibet can offer.

The circuit starts from our agency (bus, 4×4). Breakfast in Dhulikel after 1 hour of transport. Road to Kodari. Immigration formalities and border crossing, The Tibetan guide and the vehicles are waiting for you and take you to Zanghmu which is the border post on the Tibetan side (new immigration formalities). Road to Nyalam.
